Last year, we bought "The Pirate Box" Escape Room from Mystery Locks to use for our high school's Spring Banquet. We tweaked the story a little and gave it a "Goonies" intro, inviting the students to free "One-Eyed Willie!" We went all out, building a room that modeled the inside of a Pirate ship, complete with skeletons and treasure! The students had a blast! I bought this to use for a middle school student council-run advisory challenge for our 13 advisories. It was so well organized, that even though my co-advisor and I constructed 13 copies of everything, it was easy to do. And the kids really enjoyed the puzzles, especially how previous items were needed for later puzzles. My own advisory wasn’t able to finish in the time we had, and begged me to let them finish later because they enjoyed it so much (which we did). All in all it was a terrific experience, and I would purchase other escape rooms as well!

First the quality of the material and assembly instructions were top notch. Unfortunately that is where it ends. The only setup instructions was to read the intro and the game will be self guided. After printing, cutting, and gluing 30 sheets of material to assemble the game (which I knew before purchasing), the instructions said to read the intro and the game will be self guided. This led to questions right away. I emailed the creators about how you would confirm the correct solution to a puzzle without reading the last clue, which gives the solution. They responded with how the gameplay flows, but never responded to my question even after a second email asking the same question. The overall consensus of the game from most players was that it was too complicated for multiple players to play due to needing to review the clues for multiple puzzles. This game should be played with fewer players to stay engaged. If multiple copies were printed, there would be too much material making a disorganized game. If you have a small group, maybe up to four players, the you may have a better experience. Anything over that you may have guests leave the game like we did.

I very much liked this. I liked assembling each envelope and then when I forgot what was in each, we played it. Fairly easy, we didn't need any hints. But puzzle 10 - clue 3 & 4 need to be checked, they should be reversed. Will try another soon

We enjoyed the artwork and puzzles. We added a ocean-pirates themed background soundtrack to add to the ambience and had some good chocolate coins for our kids to enjoy at the end.

I got this as a game to pass the time during my daughter’s 12 year old birthday party and they loved it! I do think that one of the number clues was wrong and we just ended up picking the clue that had the number closest to it and that work but was confusing as to why the numbers weren’t coming out right.

I ordered from the website, got a receipt in Romanian and no download link. There was no response from the email address. £20 down the drain I guess. Odd that they’d ask for a review, really!

We used this for after prom and the kids loved it! We set up the room in a pirate theme and scattered the clues around. We had them split up into pairs to solve solutions and then had the group of 8-10 do the last 1 together. This allowed us to get it done in 25 minutes, and we were able to run it multiple times through out the night. The kids loved it!
