The Star Puzzle
What you’ll needDoesn't count

Getting startedDoesn't count
Begin by cutting the vertical letter strips, keeping them attached to their potion sections. Then cut out the five horizontal potion strips, separating them from the paper on their left side.
Hint 1
Take the five horizontal potion strips (blue, green, red, blue and green) and weave them through the vertical strips following the rules in the Potion Book.
Hint 2
At each crossing, two potions combine and change the letter in that spot. Depending on the mix, a letter stays the same, changes to one of the potion colors, shrinks or disappears. Work through each crossing to find the effect on every letter.

Hint 3: Final strip placement

Hint 4
Once all potion effects are applied, follow the reading direction shown by the star to reveal the secret word.
SolutionSpoiler
The star word is HEXED. Write it down in its space in the newspaper.

The Diamond Puzzle
What you’ll needDoesn't count

Getting startedDoesn't count
Find the five letters of the secret word. Each letter is written in Morse code.
Hint 1
Take the moth decoder and fold out the horizontal bone strips on the back one by one. For each strip, look at the ritual and find the candle symbol that matches the one at the base of that bone strip.
Hint 2
From the matching candle symbol, follow the paths through the ritual until you reach several symbols. These match the symbols at the base of the vertical strips on the decoder.
Hint 3
Fold out the matching vertical strips so they cover the horizontal bone strip. With the right strips in place, the bone shows a Roman numeral (the letter’s position in the word) and a Morse code letter. Repeat for all five bone strips.
Hint 4: First letter
The first letter in Morse code is • — — —.

Hint 5: Second letter
The second letter in Morse code is • •.

Hint 6: Third letter
The third letter in Morse code is — •.

Hint 7: Fourth letter
The fourth letter in Morse code is — •.

Hint 8: Fifth letter
The fifth letter in Morse code is • • •.

SolutionSpoiler
The diamond word is JINNS. Write it down in its space in the newspaper.

The Circle Puzzle
What you’ll needDoesn't count

Getting startedDoesn't count
Place each doll card on the center START tile. Look at the four buttons on each doll, from top to bottom. They match symbols on the board.
Hint 1
From the center, move space by space following the doll’s buttons from top to bottom. After the fourth button, go back to the first and keep repeating until you reach the end of the path. Repeat for all four dolls.
Hint 2: The red doll

Hint 3: The green doll

Hint 4: The yellow doll

Hint 5: The blue doll

Hint 6
Each clue refers to the letters of the words written on that doll’s feet. Write down the four words and use the clues to work out the secret word.
Hint 7
Start by crossing out the letters of HEART wherever they appear in the other words, then use the remaining clues to find each letter and its position in the five-letter word.
SolutionSpoiler
The circle word is VOIDS. Write it down in its space in the newspaper.
The Cross Puzzle
What you’ll needDoesn't count

Getting startedDoesn't count
Begin by finding the starting point of the marked path.
Hint 1
The first symbol under the sink is a tooth. Find the matching symbol among the eight pipe cards. Tooth + brush makes toothbrush, the first object on the path.

Hint 2
Keep pairing symbols the same way to make the compound words sunflower, rainbow, earring, butterfly, lipstick, fingerprint, crossword, lighthouse and first aid.
SolutionSpoiler
With all eight pipe cards paired and arranged, their shapes form letter outlines. The cross word is OXEYE. Write it down in its space in the newspaper.

The Moon Puzzle
What you’ll needDoesn't count

Getting startedDoesn't count
Follow the seating instructions carefully.
Hint 1
Seat Dracula at the only golden chalice on the table. Then place the three women beside Dracula and directly opposite him, as required. Every vampire must also have a chalice of blood at their place.

Hint 2
To seat the right guest opposite Dracula, use the fourth rule: the guest across from him must come from a different region.

Hint 3
Then fill the remaining seats with the final placement rule.

Hint 4: Final placement
With every guest seated, read the letters in front of the five marked guests to reveal the secret word.

SolutionSpoiler
The moon word is VIALS. Write it down in its space in the newspaper.
