I had a game from Mystery locks before and knew that I could rely on this being done well.
I did this for an ESL classroom at intermediate level as a treat.
Key points
- brilliant artwork / colour scheme (artistic colleagues were impressed).
- beautifully written puzzle descriptions good for target audience (if you’re an ESL teacher you’ll need to simplify).
- a group of them managed to finish in 90 mins and running through it myself as a test run it was challenging so I’d say “easy by the standards of some escape rooms but challenging” perhaps easy/medium not easy
- Cutting out the pieces is nightmare and took me over an hour. Get help to do this if you can. It’s worth it for a grateful group, but important to know you can’t just do it in 30min on your own.
- puzzle 4 I struggled with, my students got the process of how to get the answer but ended up needing the solution…so maybe a pic on the hints might help?
- I needed help to figure that puzzle out and the chat option with mystery locks staff was both efficient and incredibly helpful. Robert was kind, patient and explained well. Plus didn’t make me feel silly for my questions.
Overall, the failings of this were on me really. The time consuming aspect of cutting, was long but necessary for such a cool escape room (see pic for reference of how many envelopes) and me struggling to get a puzzle (and failing) is really part of the escape room experience.
